Steam-Powered Sawmill

The first ships were built using materials purchased from others, but in 1874 O.B. Sørensen established his own sawmill in Bratteklev. This made shipbuilding more efficient. The sawmill provided jobs for several workers and was less dependent on economic cycles than the shipping business.

At the sawmill in Bratteklev there was a large frame saw, a band saw, several smaller circular saws, a large planer, and a spindle moulder. The sawmill remained in operation all the way up to the 1950s.
