Building slip

The shipyard slip was the construction site for ship hulls. Do you know what characterizes a good slipway? Between 1868 and 1924, 14 ships—both sailing vessels and steamships—were built in Bratteklev. On average, it took two years to build a wooden hull.

As soon as the hull was seaworthy, it was launched. This marked the transition to outfitting, which took place along the quay. The steamships were towed to mechanical workshops for the installation of steam boilers and steam engines.
