Bratteklev today

Bratteklev Shipyard aims to be a living cultural environment where we preserve, build knowledge about, and communicate the tangible and intangible values entrusted to us.

The shipyard comprises five buildings, outdoor areas including the slipway, and parts of a quay facility. The goal is for the shipyard to remain a well-preserved cultural monument. Its protected status requires that renovation and maintenance follow heritage conservation principles.

The shipyard also holds a significant collection of tools, templates, machines, and equipment, all used at the yard or on the ships. Work is continuously underway to register, map, and study these objects, providing a solid basis for their preservation and ideas for further development.

Communication is a central activity at Bratteklev. We welcome visitors both during and outside opening hours from April to October. Our goal is to create meaningful experiences. We offer knowledge about an important part of Norwegian maritime history and invite dialogue, so that together we can reflect on the past and its significance for the present and future.

We are happy to give you a guided tour of the shipyard. Please contact us or book tickets for a tour here.
