Open traditional boats
Before Tromøy was connected by bridge in 1961, all transport went by sea. In Bratteklev there is a collection of open traditional boats, which were used in connection with the shipping business and in everyday life.
The collection in Bratteklev consists of rowing and sailing sjekter, barges, lifeboats, and leisure boats. There was a close relationship between the shape of the boats and the local waters, their intended use, and the available materials. The boats are mainly clinker-built, and some of them were built at the shipyard.
The boats can be seen at the shipyard, but some of them are also available digitally. Here you can see the rowing and sailing sjekte that O. B. Sørensen built for his father in 1874.
